Gunston, George Mason University's mascot, first appeared on December 12, 1995 in a men's basketball game against Ohio State, and has been entertaining Patriot fans ever since.

With his out-of-this-world dance moves and enthusiasm for Mason Athletics, Gunston is the Patriots' most recognized and biggest fan, soaking in all of what George Mason University has to offer.

Gunston is named after Gunston Hall, the home of a true Patriot -- George Mason.

Conduct Clause:

"Gunston" is a representative of George Mason University and its Athletic department. Therefore, "Gunston" reserves the right to not participate in any activity that could be considered inappropriate, unsafe, or harmful to the performer. Gunston also may choose to leave an event due to the above reasons and no refund will be given.

George Mason University's Athletic Department must approve any and all forms of Media Exposure that refers to any Gunston Appearance.

The request form must be completed a minimum of 4 weeks in advance. The costume may not be rented or borrowed

The client must provide secure parking and a dressing room for Gunston.

Appearance Fees

  • All University functions and non-profit organizations will not incur a charge.
  • Private Parties will be charged $100.00 for a one-hour appearance

    By signing this form, I acknowledge that I have read and understand the policies related to Gunston appearances. I further agree to Indemnify and Gunston harmless from and against any and all claims, losses and liabilities of any kind (including reasonable attorney's fees and other reasonable cost of defense) arising out of or incident to Gunston's performance in accordance with this agreement.

    I further understand that George Mason University is under no obligation to fulfill this Gunston appearance request. All appearances are contingent on the availability of the student mascots. Although a very effort will be made to accommodate scheduled events, George Mason University will not be held liable for missed appearances.
